Hey. It’s been a while. I know, I know; I’ve been slacking horribly on my posts. I’ve no real excuse for that, and I’ve literally been meaning to make this one for months, but I’ve just never gotten around to it. Partly because my audience is still small at the moment so I’ve guiltily let myself procrastinate, but also because I was tired of sounding like a broken record and repeating the same negative stuff month after month.
To make a long story short, 2020 was a really rough year for me. Things got better in 2021, but not by much. I swapped jobs twice and was dealing with some of my worst iterations of the usual struggles we all deal with, like making ends meet and family. My dog also passed away recently, right when I was already dealing with a lot of loneliness and depression. So I just kept putting off my posts and newsletters and focusing on writing.
Well, all that uncomfortable stuff aside, I do also want to say that I’ve made some progress on the writing front despite things taking a lot longer than I expected. I’m going to be releasing a book either next week or the week after; Nightmarians, which has now been renamed to Awakening Arte. It’s the first book in my new progressive fantasy series and I’m excited to (finally) share it with the world. As for Stormbringers, the second book in the Islandborn trilogy, I unfortunately can’t give any time estimates, but it’s coming, eventually.
I’ll be sprucing up my website a bit too, which mostly means changing the ‘books’ page layout and updating my bio a little. I also hope to get back to posting at least monthly. My newsletter is also getting rebranded and revamped a bit. Outside of that, I’m currently just focused on getting Awakening Arte out. It’s in the final editing stages and the cover, blurb, and everything else is already done. This time there won’t be a lengthy preorder window or anything; the book will just go live. I’ll post about it here, obviously, as well as on Reddit.
Speaking of Reddit, it’s the social platform I use the most. I’m not a huge fan of Twitter and I really never liked Facebook, and mostly use them to engage with others. The best way to reach me directly is always going to be through my email (use the contact form), though poking me on Reddit is a close second.
I think I’ve been on a six-month hiatus by this point, so it’ll all be slow going as I ramp back up into things. I’d like to get the sequel to Awakening Arte out this year, and it doing well would definitely help with that (covers and editors aren’t cheap!).
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say that I’m still alive, still writing, and will have something to share soon, likely Tuesday or Wednesday of next week if nothing goes wrong. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this. I wasn’t sure if you got my Facebook post. Also, I’m sorry to be this guy, but can you or your editor try to do better at catching typos and other grammatical errors in your future books? I know you’re self published and I wasn’t expecting perfection, but I’m not an editor and I still noticed probably over 100 typos and other errors.
Other than that, I really enjoyed your book and am looking forward to Stormbringers. I hope the future continues to get better for you.
I haven’t looked at your Facebook post yet, but I’ll go have a gander. And no worries, your criticism is completely valid, though it’s all my fault. I have a list of some typos readers have sent me, including a super helpful list from Set Sykes, and hope to clean up Cradle of Seal and Soil some (which won’t help you now, I know, but at least future readers will have a smoother experience).
Going forward, I’m also going to double down on my self-editing before it gets sent to my editor, and I have a new process for it I believe will vastly improve my ability to catch errors. It was definitely an unfortunate learning experience because I myself was shocked at how much I had missed, but I’m actually feeling pretty good about how Awakening Arte turned out in that regard.
As a result, it and my future novels should be significantly better when it comes to errors, knock on wood. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to post, so thank you!
